How to - choose what computer is right for me.

New Computers

  • Decide what you are going to do with the computer.
  • How many users will there be?
  •  Will it be used for gaming?
  • Is it going to be on a network?
  •

A lower specification computer will be suitable if your use is mainly Email, Word Processing or Internet browsing and basic game playing.

A medium specification computer will be suitable for all the above as well as some gaming and networking etc.

A higher specification computer will be suitable for the entire above plus more intense gaming and networking plus some network administration.

If you are using a Network then you should use Windows 7 Professional 64Bit.
If you are planning for the whole family or multiple staff members to you use the computer, then Hard Drive space will need to be increased. 1TB is a good starting point.

    THESE ARE FEW EXAMPLES:

  • Lower Spec – Intel I3 CPU, 2GB Memory, On-board Video 500GB Hard Drive and Windows 7 Home Premium 32Bit.
  • Medium Spec – Intel I5 CPU, 4GB Memory, On-board Video 1TB Hard Drive and Windows 7 Home Premium 32 or 64Bit.
  • Higher Spec – Intel I7 CPU, 8GB Memory but more is better, Add-on Video Card of at least 1Gb Memory, 1TB Hard Drive and Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit.
  •

You can always compensate a lower spec computer by increasing the memory or adding a standalone Video card.
A 32Bit version of Windows can use up to 4GB memory, where as a 64Bit version of Windows can use much more.
